Cottonseed meal is an effective and readily available source of by-pass protein; other meals are as high or higher in protein content, but often not so readily available. The value of a protein meal is largely dependent on its by-pass protein content, but the economic value of protein should be calculated on the basis of the cost per kilogram of by-pass protein.
