When to Use
Blotliq:
Acute frothy
bloat is an extreme emergency and should be relieved by emergency
rumenotomy.
Even following
the relief of pressure and the evacuation of the rumen, many of
these animals will die.
Less acute cases,
which are almost certainly present in the herd with cases of acute
bloat, can be treated with surfectants (such as teric), movement
and positioning the animal with the head uphill, e.g. by using a
loading race.
Avoid back
grazing. The
new shoots appearing after the paddock has been grazed are highly
bloat inducing. Other
control measures include bloat blocks and/or bloat capsules. It
is important to remember that Blotliq must be supplemented BEFORE
as well as during the traditional bloat season.
Also, by supplementing
livestock all year round with multi-nutrients, the overall incidence
of bloat in the herd will decrease as the animals will be in a better
position to cope with nutritional abnormalities, such as Bloat.
